Three Simple Napkin Folds for Everyday Tables
A neat napkin does not need an elaborate fold. Try a rectangle, a narrow band or a relaxed square using a clean napkin you already own. The result depends on the fabric and dimensions, so test one before folding the full table.

Make a simple rectangle
Lay the napkin flat, fold it in half, and fold again only if the result is too large for your setting. Place it beside the plate. This is a useful starting point when the fabric is thick or you want the table to feel casual.
Try a narrow band
Fold the napkin into a rectangle, then fold the long edges inward until the band suits your plate. Lay it across the plate or beside the utensils. Do not pull it so tight around decorative items that guests need to dismantle the setting to use it.
Leave a relaxed square
Fold into a smaller square and keep the edges aligned without pressing for a rigid result. Compare all three options on the same dinnerware. Choose the easiest repeatable fold, then use the napkin-placement guide to decide where it belongs.
Try it with what you own
Fold one napkin into each proposed shape before doing the whole set. Test the result with a plate and utensils. Select the fold your actual fabric holds comfortably, not the one that looks most elaborate in an unrelated photograph.
